Often paired with "さすが" (as expected). Used to praise someone, expressing that the high quality matches their background or efforts. Cannot be used for negative feelings about yourself.

Used when making a judgment or giving an opinion based on a certain perspective or clue. 'からすると' is often used for clues, while 'から見ると/から言えば' focus on standpoints.

Expresses that the current state is undesirable, and if it continues, it will lead to failure. 'ようじゃ' is the casual/spoken version of 'ようでは'.

Expresses that after a long process or deliberation, the result was negative or disappointing. Often used with 悩む, 考える, 議論する.

Expresses strong regret or dissatisfaction because a minor cause led to a major, very negative outcome. Never used for positive results.

Indicates that doing something with a good or specific expectation actually led to the exact opposite (and usually undesirable) effect.

Written and formal expression. Shows that the speaker is forced by circumstances to take an action, even if they do not want to.

Used in formal speech, news, and official warnings to state an objective probability of a negative consequence.

Often used to express that an extreme emotional or physical state leads to an unexpected, usually negative, result.

Often used with verbs of emotion or physical sensations. It describes a feeling that arises naturally and cannot be controlled.
यो प्रायः भावना, शारीरिक संवेदना वा अनुभूतिको विशेषणहरूसँग प्रयोग गरिन्छ। यसले आफैं उत्पन्न हुने र नियन्त्रण गर्न नसकिने भावनालाई जनाउँछ।

Primarily used for physical sensations (e.g., itchy, hot, cold) or strong personal desires and emotions. It is more colloquial than '〜てならない'.

Expresses that one cannot do something because of social morality, duty, or common sense, rather than physical inability.

Used to express surprise or unexpectedness at how quickly the situation changed. Cannot be used for the speaker's own actions.

The second clause often describes something unexpected or accidental. The speaker's own intentional action or future plan cannot go in the second clause.

Used when describing that after doing something, the speaker discovered an unexpected result. Often used with 〜たところ、〜だった.

Expresses that actions, plans, or amounts are modified dynamically to match variables like age, climate, budget, or requests.

Formal. Expresses that two changes happen in parallel, often cause and effect. Common in news, reports.

〜次第だ / 〜次第でConditionalsDepending on — the outcome is decided based on a certain factorमा भर पर्छ / ... अनुसार निर्धारण हुन्छ — नतिजा कुनै निश्चित कारक वा अवस्थामा आधारित हुनुNoun + 次第だ / 次第で
'〜次第で' is used mid-sentence followed by actions/outcomes. '〜次第だ' is used at the end of a sentence.
'〜次第で' वाक्यको बीचमा प्रयोग गरिन्छ जसको पछाडि कार्य वा नतिजाहरू आउँछन्। '〜次第だ' वाक्यको अन्त्यमा प्रयोग गरिन्छ।
〜一方だVerb AspectsKeep on / Continually — continuing to change in one specific directionनिरन्तर ... भइरहेको छ — कुनै एक दिशामा मात्र परिवर्तन लगातार भइरहनुVerb (Dictionary form) + 一方だ
Generally used to describe a continuous trend, often of an unfavorable or worrying nature (e.g., prices rising, health deteriorating).

Used to describe an action that has started but is currently in progress or suspended before completion. Common collocations include food (食べかけ) or books (読みかけ).
सुरु भइसकेको तर पूरा नभई बीचमै रोकिएको वा चलिरहेको अवस्थालाई जनाउन यसको प्रयोग गरिन्छ। प्रायः खाना (आधा खाएको) वा पुस्तक (आधा पढेको) जस्ता कुराहरूसँग प्रयोग हुन्छ।

Often used with noun pairs of opposing concepts (e.g., gender, age, distance) or weather conditions. Formally written as 関わらず, and also pronounced かかわらず.

〜に限り specifies an exclusive limitation ('only'). 〜に限らず broadens the scope ('not only... but also...'). Often used in formal announcements or written signs.
'〜に限り' ले मात्र एउटा विशेष सीमालाई जनाउँछ ('मात्र')। '〜に限らず' ले दायरा फराकिलो बनाउँछ ('मात्र नभएर... अरू पनि')। यो प्रायः औपचारिक सूचना वा लिखित रूपमा प्रयोग गरिन्छ।

Expresses general truths, social norms, or things that naturally happen. Also used for nostalgic reminiscence (たものだ). Negative form ものではない means 'one should not'.
सामान्य सत्य, सामाजिक मान्यता वा स्वाभाविक रूपमा हुने कुराहरू व्यक्त गर्छ। विगतको स्मरण (nostalgic) गर्न たものだ पनि प्रयोग हुन्छ। नकारात्मक रूप ものではない को अर्थ 'गर्नु हुँदैन' हुन्छ।

Expresses a high degree of emotion (joy, sadness, regret, etc.). It is a literary expression often accompanied by degree adverbs like どんなに (how much) or なんと (how).

Used when predicting what someone would do, based on their personality or typical behavior. It is usually followed by an inference or expectation.

A double negative expression. It indicates a weak affirmation, meaning 'it is possible' or 'I might' but with some hesitation or conditions.

Used after counters/quantifiers to mean 'approximately' or 'about'. It sounds slightly more formal or traditional than 'くらい' or 'ほど'.

Similar to だけでなく but more emphatic. Often followed by も or さえ for added emphasis. The second clause presents an even more extreme case.

Used to add related, supplemental information to the previous statement. It does not change the topic completely (unlike ところで).

An emphatic negative structure. Similar to 全然〜ない (zenzen... nai) but often carries a nuance of complaining or expressing unmet expectations.

Indicates that because of a certain characteristic or situation, a resulting feeling or state is naturally stronger or more pronounced.

How should I study these grammar patterns?
Work through each blueprint in order: read the structure, check the notes, then build your own sentences with it. Patterns are grouped by level, so studying them in sequence follows the exam syllabus.
What changes between grammar levels?
N5 covers basic sentence structure. N4 and N3 add connective forms, conditionals and increasingly formal registers. N2 and N1 expect you to handle academic and business Japanese, including written and spoken styles used in the wild.
