Privacy Policy

Summary

NihonGyan does not require an account, and the pages of this website do not ask for personal information in order to read them. We only collect data if you choose to give it to us.

What we collect

• Waitlist signups. If you join the waitlist we receive the name and email address you type into the form. This is sent to a third-party form-handling service so that we can email you about the app.
• Anonymous usage analytics. We use PostHog to count page views and understand which features get used. This is analytics only — it is not used to build an advertising profile of you.
• Data stored in your own browser. Your language preference, light/dark theme choice, and your in-progress exam answers are saved in localStorage on your own device. This never leaves your device and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser data removes it.
• Camera access. The exam-unlock page can scan a QR code. The camera is only active while that page is open and you have granted permission, and images are processed on your device — they are not uploaded.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not require an account to use the website or the app.
• We do not use third-party advertising trackers on this website.

Third-party services

A few services process data on our behalf: a form-handling provider for waitlist signups, PostHog for anonymous analytics, and Google Fonts to serve the site's typefaces. Each of these is governed by its own privacy policy.

Children

This website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to object to how it is used. Because most of what this site stores lives in your own browser rather than on our servers, in many cases you can simply clear your browser data. For anything else, email us at the address below and we will respond.

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page.
