What is JLPT N5?

N5 is the beginner level of the JLPT. The exam expects roughly 800 vocabulary words and 80 kanji. NihonGyan has 1000 N5 words, 80 kanji and 45 grammar patterns, each with readings, translations and an example sentence.

How do I pass N5?

Learn the 80 kanji and 1000 vocabulary words first — they carry most of the marks — then the 45 grammar patterns. Finish with the 2 past papers on this site under timed conditions.
