What is JLPT N1?
N1 is the advanced level, roughly equivalent to C1–C2 in the CEFR. The exam expects around 10,000 vocabulary words and 2,000 kanji. NihonGyan has 2000 N1 words, 1136 kanji and 255 grammar patterns.
Do I need N1 to work in Japanese?
For professional translation, interpretation and academic research, yes — it is normally required. For many business roles strong N2 is enough, and for some industries no Japanese qualification is needed at all.
